Alzheimer's and Effective Communications Strategies

Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

Special Little Women Book Discussion

Join us for an all ages celebration of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott!

We will discuss the book, bring snacks to share, and drink some tea. The book, and a cookbook, may be available to borrow at the front desk. The book is for reading and discussing and the cookbook is for cooking up something wonderfully delicious to bring to the event. Please do register so we can make sure there is enough tea, and contact Jessica at jessicad@derrypl.org if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!
