Engaging Learners by Altering Our Own Mindset - A NH Toy Panel Event

Note: This will be presented via Zoom. This is presented via the New Hampshire Toy Library. The Derry Public Library is advertising, rather than hosting, this program.

The world of mainstream education is obsessed with measuring and categorizing academic growth. Especially since the pandemic, it's hard to avoid constant chatter about learning loss and skill gaps between different groups. If you are the parent or teacher of a differently wired kid, you are probably really familiar with IEPs that show all the ways your child is struggling, accompanied by very detailed plans for improvement. In this webinar, Founding Director of TreeFort Learning Emily Samuel puts forth a simple but radical idea: What if all of that is asking the wrong question? What would happen if we stopped documenting and attempting to fix the things that are "wrong" with our kids and instead poured our time and energy into recognizing and celebrating all the amazing things they are already doing?
