Hidden History of New Hampshire
Wednesday, March 17 at 7:00 pm
What do religious leader Mary Baker Eddy, poet Celia Thaxter, sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the Dublin Social Library, the Cathedral of the Pines and the Nashua Dodgers have in common? They are among the many fascinating topics discussed in D. Quincy Whitney’s book, "Hidden History of New Hampshire".
Hidden History of New Hampshire is an intriguing anthology of 60 true stories that encompass seven themes--Home and Community; Government and Politics; Ingenuity and Enterprise; Creativity and Culture; Seasons; Forests and Mountains; and Lake, Sea, Sky. The book came about as the result of a research project for the American Folklife Festival, staged each July on the Mall in Washington, D.C. In 1999, when the Smithsonian Institution selected New Hampshire as the featured state, the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts commissioned Whitney to research the topic "New Hampshire Firsts and Bests."
